Working after your studies
As an international student with student immigration permission (also known as "visa" or "leave to remain") you are permitted to switch into any of the work categories if you make a valid application before your permission expires and you meet all the necessary requirements of that category.
Read the UKCISA (UK Council for International Student Affairs) website for the latest information about working after your studies.
There are three main work categories that you may be eligible to apply for:
Tier 1 - Post Study Work
The scheme replaced the International Graduate Scheme on 30 June 2008 and if successful, you will be granted permission to work in the UK for a maximum of two years.
Tier 1 - General
The scheme replaced the Highly Skilled Migrant Program and in order to qualify you must earn a certain number of points for age, previous earnings and qualifications.
Tier 2 - Skilled Workers
The scheme replaced the Work Permit Scheme and in order to qualify you must have a job offer from an employer (sponsor).
